The Fate of the Olympic FencesWhat happens to all the jumps after the Olympic Games? The course for Atlanta 1996 has become truly international. The Atlanta fence was exported to Switzerland where it was put on display at the home of the Federation Equestre Internationale/International Olympic Committee (FEI/IOC). And not surprisingly, the Atlanta Committee Organizing the Games (ACOG), chose to imortalize the Southern Doorways in its museum in Atlanta. The Thunderbird with its 23-foot wingspan, the Buffalo Walls, and the Sydney 2000 fences all had round-trip tickets back to a private party in Southern California. The Native American Pottery fence, Florida, Navajo Wall, Bamboo Gate with Thatched Huts, Southern Columns, and Pueblo Walls all went to Monterrey, Mexico. Spruce Meadows in Alberta, Canada, purchased the Texas Ranch Gate, while the Centennial Pillars made their way to Tennessee. The Rustic Pillars with the shingled tops headed for New York. The Leones decided the Start/Finish markers would make fine souvenirs of Peter's Olympic debut and took them home to New Jersey. |
